“Aging is an extraordinary process whereby you become the person you always should have been.”

So said David Bowie, and who am I to argue with a poet like Bowie?
But, an editor lives within me, and I might have ended this quote by stating you become the person you “are meant to be.”
“Should have been” suggests an element of regret, that you somehow missed the mark in your youth. And, yes, youth is wasted on the young and all that, but I prefer to think of life as an on-going process with benefits as we age.
“Meant to be” has shades of hope and promise in it. There’s still more and it’s better. Perhaps it offers more clarity.
We still reflect on life, still learn about the world, and we still evolve. Closer to the person we are meant to be.
Another quote comes to mind: “Be patient with me, God isn’t done with me yet,” designed with perhaps one’s teenager or challenging toddler in mind. I’d like to borrow it for my “old age” because I’d like to think I am not “done” yet either!
And isn’t that an exciting thought? Opportunities yet for growth to expand our understanding of the world. As I look around me, I see role models, other women who still inspire, long past the age when society deems them of value.
It’s a time of life that can be rich and fulfilling in a way that it can never be when we are younger.
My blog is about the reflecting, learning, and evolving that we still do as we live and age. You are welcome to come along for the journey.
